First Presbyterian Church
Church Choirs
First Presbyterian Church values music in worship. We have many opportunities for music ministry including Chancel Choir, Folk Choir and Chime Choir.
Chancel Choir![]()
The Chancel Choir is composed of a small but dedicated group of singers under the direction of Judy Trohkimoinen. This group provides choral music ministry in a wide variety of musical styles for Sunday morning worship and other special church services throughout the program year (which runs from Labor Day through Memorial Day).
They have performed traditional favorites like choruses from Handel's
"Messiah", Brahm's "How Lovely is Thy Dwelling Place", and Renaissance choral music by Palestrina as well as newer music like Gospel, African American Spirituals, and modern compositions by Don Besig and Mark Hayes. In short, all sacred music is fair game for this choir! The Chancel Choir is accompanied on the piano and organ by pianist Lindy Cloyd and has been known to include drums, tambourines, and trumpets in its music. Several "Sermon in Song" Services have been performed by the Chancel Choir in combination with the Folk Choir, the Chime Choir and congregational soloists.
Rehearsals are held weekly on Wednesdays from 5:30-7:00 pm and Sunday mornings from 9:45-10:15 am. Choir retreats/potlucks are held twice during the choir year to rehearse new music for the upcoming months. All singers ages 14 to 94 are welcome!
Folk Choir
The Folk Choir is an informal singing group directed by Ginger Rembold that performs modern folk songs and contemporary Christian music accompanied by guitars, drums, and keyboard.
This choir performs periodically during the church year and recent performances have included songs
such as "Amazing Grace", "Bubblin'", "Sing Your Praise to the Lord" (Amy Grant Song), "Hungry, I Am", "Laughter, the Cosmic Roar", an Easter collection including "Allelu", "I Am the Resurrection", and "Ev'ry Morning is Easter Morning", "The Race Is On", and "He Is the Reason".
Rehearsals are held once or twice each month on Wednesday nights from 7-8pm. Youth are especially invited although anyone who likes to sing or play guitar, drums, or keyboards is welcome.
Chime Choir
The Chime Choir is a beginning group of ringers learning to play tone chimes, a variation of more traditional handbells. If you can count and follow a director, this may be the choir for you!
Chime Choir is directed by Ginger Rembold and performs several times during the year, accompanying congregational hymns and providing special music during the worship service. A new
octave of low chimes has provided more depth to their musical selections.
All are welcome and encouraged to learn to play and be prepared to substitute when needed! Chime Choir rehearses once or twice per month after worship service on Sundays from 11:45 am to 12:30 pm.
O come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation! Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a
joyful noise to him with songs of praise! Psalm 95: 1-2.
Come join one of these choirs and help us "sing to the Lord" and "make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise"!
